ICE PAINTING PROJECT
Skating Rink
For the past four years, Canadian artist, Gord Halloran, has been creating huge, boldly coloured Ice Paintings as public art events in Canada. These paintings have been hailed by the Globe and Mail as the "quintessential Canadian art form".

Mr. Halloran floods brilliant colours over the entire ice surface. He then uses the Zamboni to cut, weave and blend the painting into a visual expression of beauty at the heart of a winter landscape. A performance with music, lights and skaters is choreographed to further interpret the work. Thousands of skaters from the community are then invited to enjoy the results by skating on their own Ice Painting at a grand opening party.

The artist is seeking to collaborate with cities, arts organizations and ice rinks on a series of international Ice Painting events to be held in the fall and winter of 1997/98.

SKATING

"Imagine the rink itself exploding
with the fullness of rich, primary colour
- thrown, sprayed, brushed layer upon layer across
the entire surface like a jewelled mosaic."
- Darah Hansen/The Coast News
